This engraved monogram features a series of closely spaced deep lines which form the broad strokes of the script design. A patina has been applied to provide a vivid contrast. The engraved line pattern will wear evenly and help in holding the patina.

Preparing the Design for Engraving

1. Hermanson first draws the design in a space proportionate to the piece he will be engraving. He then photocopies the original drawing of his design onto clear acetate. He places the reverse side (mirror image) of the acetate over the area to be engraved and envisions its size, placement and other layout details. If necessary, he will then scale it down and make required adjustments.

2. He copies the finished reverse image onto paper and does an acetone transfer of it onto the piece for the engraving process. (The acetone transfer process is described in the July 2005 issue of Proffessional Jeweler Magazine.)
